You are given a bare farm, and told to plant crops and get animals so that you can start a successful farm. Like any farm, there are chores to do, like watering the crops, feeding and brushing and milking the cows and other animals, cutting fodder, harvesting your grown vegetables and so on. Trust me, it is not as easy as it sounds! There are also town folk to socialize with and a kind, caring Harvest Goddess to help you out when you are in a rut. Harvest Moon is the ultimate farming simulation experience! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ +++ Objective of the Game +++ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Along with facing the challenge of running a successful farm, there is a dilemma you need to solve for the town as well. The town is going to be torn down in order to build a resort. It is your job to try and stop this. You have exactly one year to complete this task. Pretty daunting, eh? There are nine different ways you can save the town, depending on who you make friends with in the town. Good luck! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ CHAPTER 2 - CHARACTERS +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ In this game, you must make friends with your neighbours in order to save the town. If you throw an offering into the little pond that has a small river leading to the rest of the lake, she will appear and either grant you a wish, give you advice, scold you for bothering her late at night, early in the morning, or on a rainy day, or just say thank you and disappear again. Birthday - Since she is an immortal Goddess, she does not have a birthday. Likes - She likes vegetables, flowers and berries, but vegetables are her favourite. Ending - None, but you should befriend her anyway, because she gives advice and grants wishes. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ CHAPTER 3 - YOUR FARM ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ +++ Tools +++ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ During the game, you need tools to work on your farm. You start off with a watering can, a hoe, and an ordinary sickle. Watering Can - Used for watering your crops and can be refilled at the well near the chicken coop. Hoe - Used to break up the soil in your fields for planting. Sickle - Used for cutting grass in your field into fodder (3 grass cuts makes 1 piece of fodder) or cutting down dead crops. Brush - Once you get a horse and cows, you will need a brush. You have to buy this from Louis at the Tool Shop. The brush is 300G. Milker - Once you get cows, you will need a milker. You have to buy this from Louis at the Tool Shop. The milker is 1800G. Super Sickle - You can also buy this from Louis. Instead of cutting just one square of grass, like the ordinary one, it cuts three. Flute - This is also a good tool. You need to befriend Louis to get it. You can use it to train your dog to sit, heel, lay down, jump, sit up, and herd cattle. (He needs to like you enough first, though). Fishing Rod - This is useful, too. Befriend Joe to get it, practice fishing, and eventually you will catch fish to cook and give to people. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ +++ Your House +++ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Your house has a lot of useful things in it. When you first start out, your house is one room. It has a bed in the corner with a nightstand beside it, a small television, a bookshelf, and a calendar on the wall. Bed - This is obviously used for sleeping. Television - You have to be sure to watch the news on your television every day to find out what the weather will be like tomorrow (if there is a chance of rain over 50%, bring all your animals inside). Nightstand - This has a little book where you can look at the status of your farm or save your game. Bookshelf - This contains notes written by your grandfather about taking care of crops and animals. Calendar - This shows you the when the dry season (red), mild season (yellow), and rainy season (blue) are. Kitchen - If you manage to earn 100 000G, you can buy a kitchen from the Carpenter Shop. It will be ready the day after you buy it and contains a pot, an oven, a frying pan, a fridge, along with a small table, and a door leading to the toilet, and another leading to the bathtub. You can cook meals in your kitchen and store food in your fridge. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ +++ What Things Are For +++ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Apart from your house, your farm contains many other useful things. Doggie Dish - This is located outside your house it is where you feed your dog. Chicken Coop - This is where you keep your chickens, and it contains six feed boxes and a water trough. (If you have less than six chickens, only fill the box with their name on it. Walk up to a box and press X to see which chicken that box belongs to). Barn - This is where you keep your horse and cows. It contains one horse stall, and five cow stalls, along with a fodder dispenser on the wall, attached to the silo. Same as with the chickens, each animal has its own stall and feed box. Walk up to a feed box and press X to see which animal that box belongs to. Silo - This is attached to the barn and it is where all your fodder to feed your horse and cows is kept. NOTE: If you buy fodder from Bob, it will not get put into the silo. It will remain in your inventory. The only way you can get fodder in the silo is if you cut the grass in your pasture yourself. It will do this automatically. Pasture - This is where you keep your horse and cows when they are outside. It is also where you cut grass to make fodder. It is green during summer and spring, but turns yellow during fall and winter. Well - This is located by the chicken coop and is used for refilling your watering can when it becomes empty. Fields - Your farm has eight fields for planting crops. (Do not use up all the fields, it is just wasted time and effort). I would suggest using up only four of the fields. One for corn, one for tomatoes, one for potatoes, and one for breadfruit. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ CHAPTER 4 - ANIMALS +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ +++ Horse +++ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ You get the horse after working for Bob for a while. Once you have your horse, you have to gain his trust. At first, he won?t let you ride him, but just make sure to brush him and talk to him everyday, and ALWAYS remember to check the weather so you can bring him into the barn before it rains. NEVER forget to feed him when he is in the barn. On sunny days, when he is out in the pasture, you do not have to fill his feed box in the barn. He will just eat the grass in the pasture, and get full that way. If you take good care of him, and are kind to him, after a few days or more, you will be able to get on his back and ride him. He will only trot at first, but if you keep riding him and taking care of him, he will eventually start to canter, and then gallop. NOTE: Do not ever hit your horse with your hoe or sickle, as this frightens him and makes him angry, and could eventually kill him if you do it enough times. ANIMAL CRUELTY IS BAD!!!!! Also, getting the horse is absolutely crucial if you want to get The Horse Race ending. ~~~~~~~~~~~~ +++ Dog +++ ~~~~~~~~~~~~ When you first start the game, there is a doggie dish outside your house, and two stray dogs wandering around your farm. You will not be able to pick them up at first, because they will run away, but if you keep putting food in the dish, eventually, you will be able to pick one up, name it and have it become your dog. You can put anything you find that is edible in the dish. You have to make sure you do this everyday, though, or the stray will not become your dog. Just wait for the dog you want to come by your farm, and try picking it up. Eventually, you will be able to. Just like the horse, you have to build up trust with your dog. You need to feed him and train him everyday, and if you have not bought a dog house for him yet, you need to bring him inside your house when it rains. NOTE: If it rains for more than a day, and you have him in your house, he will get sick, because there is no food to eat. You should really get a dog house. Again, do not hit him with the hoe or sickle, because this frightens him, makes him angry, and could possibly kill him. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ +++ Chickens +++ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Chickens are great to have in the game, because they are easy to take care of and provide you with eggs to sell and give to people. The problem is, they are VERY sensitive to the rain. It is crucial to check the weather everyday so you can get them in the chicken coop before it rains. When they are inside, you need to feed them. Chicken feed is cheap, so do not worry. They produce eggs that you can sell at Clove Villa. As long as you keep them out of the rain, and feed them when they are inside, and collect their eggs everyday, you will have happy, healthy chickens. During the dry season, if you take good care of your chickens, they will sometimes produce Golden Eggs. These cannot be sold, but you can use them for cooking or give them to people. NOTE: Do not hit your chickens with the hoe or sickle, either. They will get frightened and angry, and can be killed very easily, much more easily than your horse, dog, or cows. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ +++ Cows +++ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Cows are an amazing profit in the game. Their milk will make you rich! To get your first cow, go to The Farmer Shop and buy one from Bob. She will be waiting for you in the barn the morning after you buy her. She is too young to produce milk, but if you take good care of her, she will grow up healthy and start to produce milk for you. Make sure you brush her and talk to her everyday, and keep her out of the rain. Feed her when she is inside the barn, too. When she produces milk, you will get Small Milk. You have to keep taking good care of her to move up to Medium Milk, and then Large Milk. If your cow is well taken care of, during the dry season, she will sometimes produce Golden Milk. This can be sold, cooked or given away. She will not produce Golden Milk if she has not produced Large Milk yet. You can have a total of five cows in the game. If you get more than one cow, make sure your dog knows how to herd cattle. It is a faster way to get them in the barn when it is going to rain. Do this early, so you do not wake up any of your animals when they are sleeping, as this makes them angry. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ CHAPTER 5 - CROPS +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ +++ How to Take Care of Your Crops +++ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ When you start the game, you have 2 sets of potato seeds. Go buy as many more potato seeds from The Flower Shop as you can. Go home and till the soil with your hoe and plant all your potato seeds. Potato seeds are a good starter crop because they grow fast. However, once you become a successful farmer with lots of gold, it is best to buy 99 potato seeds and eight each of tomatoes, corn and breadfruit. In the field closest to your house, plant the potato seeds (only enough to fill that one field. You will need the rest later), then plant your tomato seeds in the field next to that one. Behind the potatoes, plant your breadfruit seeds, and in the field behind the tomatoes, plant your corn seeds. Fill up your watering can, and water all the seeds you planted. Keep watering them everyday (except on rainy days) until they are ready for harvest. Harvest them, then sell them, store them in your fridge if you have a kitchen, or give them to people. Keep this up until Fall 30th, then cut them all down with your sickle. (Growing crops in the winter is just dumb). During the rainy season, if it rains really hard, some of your crops will be washed away. As soon as the rainy season ends, go buy more of those seeds and replant the crop. YOU MUST WATER THEM EVERYDAY EXCEPT RAINY DAYS OR THEY WILL DIE!!!!! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ +++ Corn +++ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Corn is a very profitable crop. Even though it is more expensive and takes the longest to grow, it is worth the most G. When you plant corn seeds, they will not even sprout until a few days after you plant them, and will not yield a harvest until approximately a week after they sprout. Once they yield a harvest, however, you will be glad you invested the extra time and money. Just like milk, corn will make you rich very quickly. Remember to water them EVERY SINGLE DAY except on rainy days, or they will wither and die. Corn is a very hardy crop, and will give you several harvests before withering on its own. Overall, a great investment! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ +++ Potatoes +++ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Unlike corn, potatoes only yield one harvest before withering. However, they are the least expensive seed, and the harvested potatoes are great for cooking in your kitchen. It is useful to buy these and plant them. They also grow very quickly, and sprout the day after you plant them. They yield a harvest approximately 2-3 days after they sprout, so as long as you keep planting them, they are a constant, quick source of income. They get washed away easily during the rainy season, though, so make sure you always have plenty of extra potato seeds on hand. Remember to water them EVERY SINGLE DAY except on rainy days or they will wither and die. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ +++ Tomatoes +++ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Tomatoes are great to have on your farm. They are fairly profitable, do not take as long as corn to grow, and yield several harvests before withering and dying on their own. They are also not too expensive. They can be sold, given away, stored in your fridge if you have a kitchen, or cooked. Remember to water them EVERY SINGLE DAY except rainy days or they will die. They do not wash away as easily as potatoes during the rainy season, but you should still be prepared to lose a few anyway. Just wait until the rainy season is over and plant some more. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ +++ Breadfruit +++ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Just like corn, breadfruit will have you raking in the dough in no time. They are a bit expensive to buy, and take about the same time as tomatoes to grow. They will yield several harvests before withering, and are worth a fortune. They are also a necessity if you want to cook anything good in your kitchen. ALWAYS have one field of breadfruit on your farm. They do not wash away in the rainy season very easily, so you won?t have to replant them too much. Remember to water them EVERY SINGLE DAY except rainy days or they will die. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ CHAPTER 6 - DAILY ROUTINE ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Daily Routine is crucial to farming success. If you do not budget your day properly, or have any sort of structure or plan, you can kiss your successful farm goodbye, my friend. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ +++ In the Morning +++ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Always take care of your crops and animals as soon as you wake up. First feed your dog, then take care of your chickens. If they are inside and it is raining, fill up their feed boxes and collect their eggs, then leave. If they are inside and it is not raining, take each chicken outside, and then go back into the chicken coop and collect the eggs. If they are outside and it is not raining, just collect their eggs and leave them alone. If they are outside and it is raining, get them in the chicken coop immediately! Did you check the weather last night? After, feed them and leave. Next take care of your horse and cows. If they are in the barn and it is raining, brush your horse and cows, then milk the cows, then fill up their feed boxes with fodder and leave. If they are in the barn and it is not raining, brush the horse and cows, then milk the cows and push them outside. If they are outside and it is not raining, brush the horse and cows, then milk the cows, and leave them alone. If they are outside and it is raining, same as with the chickens. Get them inside quickly, feed, milk and brush them, and BE MORE CAREFUL NEXT TIME! After you finish taking care of the animals, water the crops and pick any vegetables that need harvesting. This is pretty much your entire morning routine. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ +++ In the Afternoon +++ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Now it is time to mingle in town. If you are working on getting a particular ending, follow the instructions I have written in that section to complete it. Then sell anything you want to sell and buy anything you need to buy. If you have time, you should visit the Goddess (she does not like being summoned in the morning, evening, or on rainy days). It is also a good idea to talk to the Harvest Sprites, as they can give you clues on how to complete the ending you are working on. That is basically your afternoon routine. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ +++ In the Evening +++ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Now it is time to head home and do the end-of-the-day chores on your farm. First, check the weather. If there is a 50% chance or more of rain, bring all your animals inside. If you don?t have a dog house for your dog yet, bring him in your house, and if your dog does not know how to herd cattle, you have to make sure you push all your cows into the barn yourself before they fall asleep. (This is extremely hard to do. Do not get more than one or two cows if your dog does not know how to herd cattle). Once all your animals are inside (or if it is not going to rain and you leave them outside), you can choose to go to bed, or go to the bar for some good food and wine and chit-chat with the town-folk. If none of these appeal to you, you can also go into your kitchen, if you have one and do some late night cooking before you retire for the day. NOTE: If you stay outside too late, you will collapse. That concludes your evening routine. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ CHAPTER 7 - SHOPS +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ +++ The Supermarket +++ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Ronald owns the supermarket. It is the closest shop to your farm. It is open from 8:00am to 6:00pm, and is closed on Sundays. It is located in the Brownie Farm area by the house he lives in with his brother, Tim. It is open from 8:00am to 5:00pm, and is closed on Thursdays. Bob will buy: Cows - 2500G Chickens - 150G (Do not sell any to him, though. It is just lost profit, because you will not have a steady stream of income from milk and eggs anymore). ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ +++ Clove Villa +++ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Technically, Dia is the owner of Clove Villa, but Martha is in charge of the shop. The shop is in the kitchen and they do not sell anything to you, they only buy things from you. It is located near the Brownie Farm, through the Western-looking doors. They are open from 8:00am to 6:00pm, and are closed on Sundays. Martha will buy: Potatoes - 60G Tomatoes - 80G Corn - 120G Breadfruit - 100G Eggs - 50G Small milk - 150G Medium milk - 200G Large milk - 300G Gold milk - 400G Herbs - 10G Cheese - 500G Yoghurt - 350G ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ +++ The Carpenter Shop +++ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Woody owns the Carpenter Shop, but his granddaughter Gwen looks after it during the day. The café buys: Herbs - 10G Breadfruit - 100G Eggs - 50G Small milk - 150G Medium milk - 200G Large milk - 300G Gold milk - 400G Cheese - 500G Yoghurt - 350G Very berries - 10G Cranberries - 20G Blueberries - 30G Very berry jam - 80G Cranberry jam - 100G Blueberry jam - 150G Mixed berry jam - 80G The bar buys: Very berries - 10G Cranberries - 20G Blueberries - 30G Walnuts - 20G Mushrooms - 10G Cheese - 500G Potatoes - 60G Tomatoes - 80G Corn - 120G Medium fish - 80G Large fish - 120G ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ CHAPTER 8 - MONEY +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ +++ Crops +++ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Crops are a great way to earn quick cash in this game. Breadfruit can be sold for 100G, corn can be sold for 120G, tomatoes can be sold for 80G, and potatoes can be sold for 60G. If you have one field of each, you will be pretty well-off in making those big bucks. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ +++ Animal Products +++ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I think it is safe to say that your animals are your largest source of income. If you have six healthy, grown chickens, you will get six eggs a day. You can sell eggs for 50G each. That is 300G a day! Your cows are also an amazing profit. You can sell their milk for big bucks! Small milk goes for 150G, medium for 200G, large for 300G, and golden milk for 400G. If you have cows and chickens, you are one rich farmer! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ +++ Part-time Work +++ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Another way to make a lot of money is by going to Bob for part-time work. Just go to his shop, stand in front of the cash register, and press X. He will ask you what you want, and you can choose between either part-time work or nothing. Choose part-time work. He will ask you to go and take care of his animals for him, then he will ask you if you want him to explain. Choose no, because I am going to explain it to you here. You will find yourself on the farm. Go up to the animals (do the horses first). Press L2, then select the brush. Press square to brush the horses, then stand in front of them and press X to talk to them. Then go up to the cow and press square to brush her. Then press L2 and select the milker. Press square to milk her. She will give you small milk. Press L1 to pocket it. Then stand in front of her and press X to talk to her. Even though the animals are now taken care of, your work is not over. Now you have to go into the barn and fill up their feed boxes. Go to the fodder dispenser on the wall and grab a square of fodder. Put it in the feed box for the cow (the one standing away from the others). Then do the same and fill up all the horse feed boxes . Now you are finished your work. Leave the farm. When you exit, Bob will ask you if you are finished your work. Choose yes, and he will give you your money for the day, the amount depends on how long you worked. It ranges anywhere between 200-570G. He also allows you to keep the milk you got from the cow. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Chpt: 9- Endings ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ +++ The Horse Race *** +++ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ To get the horse race ending, you need to befriend Bob and Gwen. You also need a horse (duh!). Start off by going to work for Bob. You must do this every single day for a season or more (except Thursdays and rainy days) in order to get the horse. You should also give Bob berries or homemade cakes. After what seems like an eternity of working on his farm, he will bring you a horse and ask you if you would like to train him. Say yes, and he will let you name him and tell you how to take care of him. As soon as you get the horse, start giving Gwen gifts to make her like you. She does not like flowers or other girly things, but she loves Golden Milk and other foods grown on your farm. While you are getting on her good side, you also have to make sure you treat your horse like royalty. At first, he will rear up every time you try to ride him, but if you keep him out of the rain, and brush him and talk to him every day, he will eventually let you get on his back. After you are able to do this, Bob will come to your farm and tell you what a good job you are doing with the horse. Gwen will then appear and act very rude towards you. They will then reveal that there is going to be a horse race at the end of the year and if a horse from the village wins that race, the town might be saved. Gwen wants her horse to win the town back. Keep taking care of your horse and ride him everywhere, and eventually, he will be able to run. A similar cut scene involving Bob and Gwen will appear once this happens. Keep taking care of the horse and riding him and keep giving Bob and Gwen gifts. Sometime later, you will overhear Bob and Gwen talking about you. Gwen tells Bob she doesn?t want you to be in the race. Bob tells her she is being ridiculous. Then Bob accuses Gwen of having a crush on you, and hints that he has a crush on her as well. Gwen blushes, calls him a jerk and runs off. Once you have your horse running at top speed, Bob will come to your farm and challenge you to a race. He is fairly easy to beat. Once you beat him, he will tell you that he?s going to enter you in the race, but Gwen appears with her horse and challenges you. She will not let you enter the race unless you beat her. BEWARE: She is tough to beat! Keep racing her at the farm until you win. Once you finally beat her, you will be entered into the horse race, and if you win that race, you and your horse will become famous and your village will stay standing. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ +++ The Cake Ending +++ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The cake ending is a rather cute ending. It involves Katie and her grandfather, Wallace. Start off by befriending Katie and Dia. (Her role in this will be revealed later). Visit Dia at Clove Villa everyday and give her blueberries. Eventually, she will start to love them and warm up to you. Visit Katie at the café everyday and give her gifts. She likes flowers and other girly things, but her absolute favourite is cheese. If you keep giving her gifts, she will eventually tell you about a cake contest in the city that she is planning on entering. She will also tell you that she wants to recreate the cake recipe your grandmother had, because it was the best-tasting cake in the world. You will tell her that you never knew about it, and she will ask you to keep an eye out for it around your farm. After this, go home and look near your dresser, and you will find the recipe Katie was talking about. The next day, take the recipe to the café to give to Katie. She will be overjoyed. She will read the recipe and become discouraged, because she has never heard of three of the ingredients: Golden milk, golden eggs, and moondrop dew. Later, she will ask you to get chickens and cows and raise them to produce good quality milk and eggs. If you do not already have them, get them. You will need to treat your animals well to get them to produce the Golden milk and eggs. In the meantime, keep visiting the café, and Katie will keep getting you to taste samples of cakes she has baked. They will all be disgusting, and Katie will get discouraged, but both you and Wallace will always make her feel better. Once you have the golden milk and eggs, give them to her when you see her. NOTE: If you give her more than one thing a day, she will not appreciate it. When she has the golden milk and egg, she will bake another cake for you to taste. This one will be better than the rest, but still not perfect. Katie will again get discouraged. After you cheer her up, go to Clove Villa. You should have Dia as a friend by now. She will give you a spell book telling you how to make moon drop dew. Take the book to Katie. She will give you a certain time and day to meet her at the Harvest Goddess Lake. Make sure to be there on time. After you have the dew, go back home to bed. The next day, Katie will give you her final cake draft. You will give her the thumbs up, and she will send it in to the contest. About a week will pass, then you will find out that her cake won the contest and because of it, the plans for bulldozing the town have been cancelled, therefore you have saved the homeland! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ +++ The Azure Swallowtail +++ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ This ending involves Lyla, Louis, Parsley and Kurt, though mostly just Lyla and Parsley. Start off by visiting Lyla at her flower shop everyday and giving her gifts. She especially loves pink cat-mint flowers! Make sure to locate Parsley and give him gifts everyday, too. He likes medicinal herbs. Also, Kurt likes tomatoes and Louis likes eggs. Keep giving gifts to Lyla and Kurt and they will eventually tell you about a beautiful, rare butterfly called the Azure Swallowtail. You should already have Parsley as your friend, but if you do not, go befriend him. A few days after you do this, Lyla and Parsley will visit you on your farm and tell you about the Blue Mist Flower Seed. By now, you should be able to put two and two together to figure out that if you plant the seed, the flower will attract the Azure Swallowtail. You should also be friends with Louis by now, too, so go to his tool shop and he will tell you all about this camera he is inventing so that he can take a picture of the Azure Swallowtail. Parsley will go away for a while to find the Blue Mist Seed, and a few days after speaking with Louis, he will show up at your farm to give you the seed. Once you have the seed, go to the Harvest Goddess Lake and plant the seed in the small dirt patch across the log bridge over the river (remember to till the soil with your hoe first). YOU MUST RETURN EVERY DAY TO WATER THE SEED!!!!! After you have been watering it for a while, a flower will bloom, and the Azure Swallowtail butterfly will make its grand appearance. Louis will snap a picture of it, and send it in to a wildlife magazine (or something like that). Keep visiting and watering the flower and sooner or later, Lyla, Louis and Parsley will show up at your farm and SURPRISE! The magazine people were so in awe of the rare butterfly that they decided to declare it as a protected area. Congratulations, you have saved the homeland! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ +++ The Goddess Dress +++ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The key to this ending is Gina, but you will also need to befriend Katie. Also, being nice to Martha and Dia helps, too. Start off by visiting Gina at Clove Villa everyday and giving her gifts. She likes eggs and fish, but flowers make her blush. After you have been wooing her everyday for a while, she will come to your farm and tentatively tell you about a new Goddess dress she is making for a parade in the city (Gina is very shy). After she tells you this, go visit the Harvest Goddess Lake and talk to the Goddess. Then go to the café and start befriending Katie (she loves cheese and flowers). After you are friends with her, she will arrive at your farm and make a drawing of the dress. You will critique her work and she will become puzzled, because she does not know how to create what you are trying to describe to her. After this, go to the Harvest Goddess Lake again, and the Goddess will tell you about a special silk thread. This thread can be bought at the tool shop for 3000G. Once you have the thread, go back to the Goddess to show her and she will promise to make a special rainbow cloth from it and weave moonlight into it to make it just like her own dress. After she does this, bring the cloth to Gina. She will be delighted and start making the dress right away. When the dress is finished, Dia will try it on and model it for you. You will give the thumbs up, and Gina will send it to the city to be chosen for the new design in the parade. About a week will pass, then the girls will show up at your farm to tell you that not only did they choose the design for the parade, but they were so in awe by its beauty that they decided to stop the construction plans for the town in order for Gina to make more dresses. YAY! You saved the homeland! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ +++ The Endangered Weasel +++ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ You need to befriend Gwen and the Harvest Sprites to get this ending. Start off by giving gifts to Gwen. Remember, she is a tomboy and does not like flowers or other girly things, but she likes any kind of food and LOVES Golden Milk. At the same time, talk to and give gifts to the Harvest Sprites. They love mushrooms and other stuff you find in the forest. After the Harvest Sprites like you, they will come to your house and tell you about this big, scary monster that wants to eat them. They will take you to the Harvest Goddess Lake to catch the culprit, only to find out that it is just a harmless weasel. Gwen will show up and scold you for trying to catch him. She will also reveal that he belongs to her and that he is an endangered species. The Goddess will appear and ask you to get her permission to photograph the weasel. Her theory is that if you have proof that the town is home to an endangered species, the town will not be bulldozed. At first, Gwen will refuse, saying that she doesn?t want to exploit him, but her love for the town will eventually win over, and she will invite you to The Harvest Goddess Lake to take a picture of the weasel. At first, the weasel will not show up, but if you go back about a week later, you will be able to snap a picture of him. Gwen will grudgingly send it in to a magazine. Soon after, Gwen will tell you that the plans for destroying the town have been cancelled and it has now been declared as a wildlife reserve. The homeland has been saved! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ +++ Treasure Hunt 1 +++ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The treasure hunt endings are linked together, meaning that you have to complete the first one in order to achieve the second one. The key to this ending is Tim, but Dia will play a part in the second ending, so go befriend her, too. Go visit Tim outside the Supermarket during the day or at his house late at night. Give him eggs, because those are his favourite. Golden Eggs are even better! After a short time of befriending Tim, he will come to your house one morning and tell you about a treasure map he found. He will ask you if you would like to go treasure hunting with him. Tell him yes, and you guys will go to find the treasure. Once you find it, you will discover that it is just a bunch of junk. Bob, who is the older brother of Tim will then come over and tell Tim that all of that junk were his old toys and art projects from when he was little. He buried them because he did not want to throw them out, but he must have forgotten about them over the years. Tim will be disappointed that his treasure was just old toys from his brother. That is the end of the first treasure hunt ending, but you have not saved the homeland yet! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ +++ Treasure Hunt 2 *** +++ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ For this ending, which is the sequel to the first treasure hunt ending, you need to continue to give Tim eggs. After a short while, he will show up at your farm again to tell you about another treasure map he found and that this one is real. He will give you a copy of the map and tell you to look for the treasure too. The map gives you a clue as to the location of the treasure, but neither you or Tim understands it. After this, go to Clove Villa. If you are good friends with Dia, she will be very interested and tell you she will help as much as she can. If not, she will tell you she will look into it if she feels like it and scold you for bothering her. You should already be friends with her from the first ending, but if you are not, give her blueberries until she likes you. She will eventually give you a bag of seeds to plant. Take these seeds and plant them next to the Flower Shop. Water them every day until the ending. NOTE: There is another way to achieve this ending, but it is more difficult. Here is how to get this ending the alternate way: After Tim gives you the map, instead of being friends with Dia, become good friends with your dog. Hug him and play with him every day until he adores you. Then take him to Clove Villa when Tim is there (from 11:00am to 2:00pm). If your dog loves you enough he will find a path to the Sacred Land. You will find the bag of seeds there. Take the seeds to the Flower Shop and plant them. Water them every day to get the ending. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ +++ The Bluebird *** +++ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The key to this ending is Louis. If you have not already gotten the flute from him, visit him near the lake by the café. Give him lots of eggs. Once he likes you enough, he will give you the flute. This flute serves two purposes. You can use it to train your dog, but it is also the key to getting this ending. Keep visiting Louis at the lake and giving him eggs. This will eventually lead to a cut scene where you feed some birds with Louis. He will tell you about a rare bluebird. Your job is to attract this bluebird to the village to save the homeland. Keep giving eggs to Louis and he will play a flute solo for you and Lyla. After this, he will show up at your farm to ask you if you would like to play the flute with him. Agree, and the flute duet will attract the endangered bluebird to save the village. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ +++ A Fishy Story *** +++ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ To get this ending, you will need to befriend Joe, Kurt and Woody. Give Joe gifts until he gives you a fishing rod. He can normally be found at the lake in the early evening hours. Give Kurt tomatoes, he will be important later, and give Woody ores. Once you have the fishing rod, practice catching fish at the lake. Once you have given Joe a few fish (not small fish, he does not like those), he will tell you about a very rare, mythical fish he saw a long time ago. Keep giving gifts to Joe, Woody and Kurt and eventually a new fishing rod will be for sale at the Tool Shop. Buy the new rod and fish with it. Once you have caught some fish with the new rod, you will discover that there is another rare fish that can be seen at the lake late at night. After you see the fish, if you are friends with Kurt, he will upgrade your fishing rod. If you follow his advice, he will make you the rod of silver fish. Go fishing at the lake with Joe and the Harvest Sprites will tell you the days to catch the mythical fish. Go to the lake on these days and try to catch it. Once you catch the mythical fish, a week will pass and you will save the homeland! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ CHAPTER 10 - HINTS AND TIPS +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ +++ Cheap Chickens +++ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Okay. I know a lot of other walkthroughs tell you to buy a chicken from Bob and put its eggs in the incubator to save money, but I have got an even better way! Instead of buying a chicken from Bob, go to the Supermarket and buy an egg for only 50G. Take it home and put it in the incubator until it hatches. Raise the chick until it becomes an adult, then put its eggs in the incubator. You will save even more money by buying your first chicken as an egg. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ +++ Cheap Cows +++ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Buy your first cow from Bob, then once she starts producing Milk L, buy a Cow Miracle Potion and get her pregnant. She will be pregnant for about 10 days. The same day the baby is born, get her pregnant again. Keep doing this until you have five cows in your barn (provided your dog knows how to herd cattle). You will lose profit off the one cow you continuously breed, but the milk from the other cows will soon make up for it. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ +++ Get the Horse +++ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ As I have said before, you need to work for Bob to get the horse. Start off by going to his farm everyday to work. Do everything he asks you to, making sure to keep going back every single day (except Thursdays and rainy days). After it seems like you have been working forever, Bob will come to your farm and present you with your very own horse. NOTE: To choose the horse you get, make sure to brush and talk to that particular horse first everyday, and Bob will give you that horse. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ +++ Get the Dog +++ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ When you first start out on your farm, you will have a doggie dish sitting outside your house. Keep putting food in it everyday (grass and other things from the forest). Eventually, you will see two stray dogs wandering around your farm. At first, when you try to pick them up, they will run away from you, but keep feeding them and you will be able to pick one of them up and keep them. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ +++ Train the Dog +++ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ In order to train your dog, you need to befriend Louis to get the flute. These are the different commands you can train him to do. Sit: UP, LEFT, DOWN. Lay Down: UP, DOWN, DOWN. Heel (useful when you want him to follow you around the town): LEFT, RIGHT, RIGHT. Herd Cattle: RIGHT, LEFT, RIGHT. Jump: LEFT, UP, RIGHT. Sit up: DOWN, UP, UP. He will eventually start to love you more. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ +++ Free Fodder From Bob +++ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Although you can buy fodder from Bob at a very reasonable price, there is a way to get free fodder from him as well. When you go to work for him on his farm, you have to fill the feed boxes in the barn. Do this like normal, then go back to the fodder dispenser. There will always be two extra squares of fodder. Take those and pocket them. Some might call it stealing, but I call it running a successful farm. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ +++ Power Berry Locations +++ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ In Harvest Moon: Save the Homeland, there are five power berries to collect. These berries increase your overall stamina throughout the day. Personally, I have only found the one in my pasture and another one in the lake. The others are purely just from other walkthroughs for the game that I have read. You can find these five berries in your pasture, when you visit the Harvest Goddess, when you visit the Harvest Sprites, when you fish in the lake, and when you trigger the Sacred Land event (whatever that is)! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ +++ Recipes *** +++ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Unless you want disgusting food that only your dog would be happy eating, it is probably a good idea to know what you are cooking in your kitchen. Here is a list of recipes that you can make in this game. Frying Pan Simple Omelette = milk + egg Sunny Side Up = golden egg Fruit Omelette = egg + egg + very berry/blueberry Vegetable Omelette = egg + egg + any kind of vegetable Cheese Omelette = egg + egg + cheese Mixed Omelette = egg + mushroom Pancakes = breadfruit + egg + milk Cooked Fish = small fish Special Fish = large fish + milk + herb Oven Flan = egg + milk Fruit Flan = egg + milk + very berry/blueberry Cake = small milk + breadfruit Fruit Cake = milk + breadfruit + very berry/blueberry Cheese Cake = golden egg + golden milk + breadfruit Honey Cake = breadfruit + honey + egg Pot Hot Milk = small milk Yoghurt = medium milk Cheese = large milk Special Cheese = golden milk Cream of Tomato Soup = tomato + milk Cream of Mushroom Soup = mushroom + milk Creamy Soup = potato + milk Corn Soup = corn + milk Bouillabaisse = fish + milk Cranberry Jam = cranberry + cranberry + cranberry Blueberry Jam = blueberry + blueberry + blueberry Very Berry Jam = very berry + very berry + very berry Mixed Berry Jam = any combination of different berries ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ +++ Biggest Rumour Put To Rest +++ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Alright, most of us know that in previous Harvest Moon games, it was possible to get married and have children, and many people are under the impression that this is also true for Harvest Moon: Save the Homeland for the Playstation 2 console. It is not. I am afraid I have to squash the biggest rumour surrounding this game. There is no possible way to get married in this game. All you are able to do is make girls fall in love with you so you can save the homeland. If you want a game where you can get married and raise a child, I recommend Harvest Moon: A Wonderful Life Special Edition for the Playstation 2 console, Harvest Moon DS, or Harvest Moon DS Cute. Sorry guys! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ CHAPTER 11 - EXTRAS +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ +++ Legal Stuff +++ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ (*** - This means that some of the information under that title was taken from Chris Carle?s Harvest Moon: Save the Homeland guide, which can be viewed at http://guides.ign.com/guides/16273/index.html. This had all the information you needed to get through the game, but was not really organized well and did not look eye catching. v. 1.5 - This version has all the same information v. 1.0 had, except I organized the guide in a more efficient manner and made it look more pleasing to the eye.
